The Knuckleball Pitch

Tim Wakefield is one of only two active knuckleball pitchers in Major League Baseball. The knuckleball pitch is very deceptive and hard to hit. When Tim's throwing his knuckleball, Tim McCarver said "trying to hit it is like trying to catch a butterfly with tweezers."

Tim throwing his knuckleball pitch is a work of art. The baseball is gripped with his fingertips, taken through his wind-up and released towards home plate, gliding through the air with a lot of unpredictable motion and minimal spin in flight. If you look up the definition of a knuckleball, or knuckler for short, you will see Tim Wakefield.

When throwing the knuckleball you must be precise, one mistake could result in a home run. According to Tim Wakefield, "as with the golf swing, there's very little margin for error in throwing the knuckleball."
